Some changes to the 2CV front bumper between 1949 and 1990
Contrary to a certain number of parts that were fitted in the 2CV during its long history, its bumpers changed very little over time except through a few notable modifications presented to you here. Unlike the TPV (Tout Petite Voiture (Very Small Vehicle)), a project that was started from 1937 by the teams of Pierre Boulanger and which did not include bumpers, the 2CV integrated them right from its launch in 1949, at the front as well as at the back. At the front, the bumper is quite recognisable and becomes a style signature of the vehicle: it consists of a V-stamped metal part and is completed by two vertical buffers, also metallic, framing the grill. This first generation of front bumpers is available on our website under the name “old model” for the part acting as
old model bumper as well as for the buffers or
overriders complementing it. The corresponding rubber finishes with a length of 320 mm or 470 mm are also offered.
In the history of the 2CV, the year 1963 saw the arrival of the 2CV AZAM and, with it, came a new model of bumper called “bananes (bananas)”. They are fitted like a buffer of the oval-shaped chrome-plated tubes, in the front as well as the back. These special models of bumper would only be fitted on the 2CV AZAM and its successor, the 2CV AZAM Export. They were produced over a short period of 4 years, till in September 1967, date of the shut-down of the manufacturing of these “luxury” versions of the two brackets.
From 1967, all the different generations of 2CV that followed till the shut-down of the production of the vehicles in 1990 were fitted with the same model of front bumper with a few subtle changes, like for example the integration of the buffer rubber elements from 1973.
Our range of 2CV front bumpers, painted or to be painted
The website of the 2CV Méhari Club Cassis sells four versions of this 2CV bumper called “new model”. They all have the MCC or original label, the
exclusive features of our company, and claim to have anticorrosion treatment either by cataphoresis, or by galvanisation. These four versions are: the
2CV bumper to be painted, the
grey bumper, the
charleston bumper and a latest
stainless steel model. A range of additional buffers is also available with three options (grey, charleston, stainless steel) of the MCC or original quality. You will also find all our additional parts like the rubber elements and the buffer trims, various finishing adhesives and even various screws and bolts or supports.
Main references for 2 CV rear bumpers
The rear bumpers have changed very little with mainly two versions called “old model” that were fitted on the older vehicles. The first one has a height of 4 cm and the second one has a height of 9 cm also having a finishing bar. The “new model”
2CV rear bumper is fitted on the majority of vehicles still in circulation. Like the front bumper, it is also offered in 4 versions having the original quality or original label: model to be painted, grey model, charleston model and, finally, stainless steel model. Please note that these 4 models are also compatible with the Dyane.
