Developments in the 2CV engine between 1949 and 1990
First of all, there was the 375cc 2CV engine fitted to the Type A produced from 1949 to 1954, which had a maximum power of 8ch Din. Then followed three generations of 425cc twin-cylinder engine for the AZ and AZU models produced from 1954 to 1972, with powers ranging from 10 to 18ch Din. With the inception of the 2CV 4 in 1970, and until 1979, the "
deux pattes" had a new 435cc engine with a power of 24 ch Din, while the 2CV 6 – which was also launched in 1970 – had a 602cc engine with a claimed power of 33ch Din. One initial version of the 602cc 2CV engine was also fitted to the AZAM (“
AZ Improved”) model, which went on sale from 1961 onwards. It was the first model with the enhancements of comfort and elegance that departed from the vehicle's fundamental philosophy of being an extremely simple and unadorned car. The 602cc remains the most-extensively-produced version of the two-cylinder engine in history, and the one for which there is the widest range of spare parts available.

A workshop for renovating 2CV engines in Cassis
In addition to our spare parts sales business covering the various 2CV engine models, we also renovate hundreds of Citroën 602cc twin-cylinder engines every year. In January, 2017, we opened a renovation workshop at our Cassis site, following the purchase of the historical machine tools previously used by the company Motorop. For decades, Motorop had been a Citroën supplier, but ultimately decided to withdraw from the 2CV engine renovation business. So our staff are now carrying on the tradition, and we have unique know-how in the conservation of the supremely-French automobile heritage of the 2CV engines. During their time-consuming renovation work, these engines are completely dismantled and cleaned, and the casing shells are thoroughly bead-blasted. Then the 2CV engine's crankshaft is also completely reconditioned, the
camshaft is disassembled, and the cam wear is checked, with each one being reconditioned or replaced with new parts, depending on its state. The
cylinder heads are also fully cleaned and bead-blasted before all the threadings are renovated, the valve guides are replaced and the
valve seats are re-machined. During each of these steps, all parts of the 2CV engine are checked in detail before being rectified, re-machined or replaced. The 2CV engine is then reassembled, run-in and put into stock as a standard replacement against the handover of a 602cc twin-cylinder engine for renovation. With
