A wide choice of spare parts for all the evolutions of the Mehari brakes
Since its creation in 1968, the brake system of the Mehari has never stopped evolving over the years and in particular with technological developments. New requirements in terms of performance and safety have pushed manufacturers to reinforce and modernise their cars. The first models of the
Mehari, like the Dyane 6, were equipped with 220 mm drum front brakes. Although this inner diameter of the drum remained unchanged until mid-1977, when they switched to front disc brakes, the diameter of the tubes making up the braking circuit was reduced at the beginning of 1973. By going from 4 mm to 3.5 mm, this new diameter made it necessary to adopt n°8 spanners instead of n°9 spanners to tighten or untighten the various elements of the circuits, the latter functions with Lockheed brake fluid, like all the drum brake circuits that had also equipped the 2cv or the Dyane.
With the switch in July 1977 to front disc brakes, with drums remaining in force at the rear, the Mehari braking system became more efficient and safer. The brake disc, caliper and pad were introduced, as well as a brake circuit and master cylinders that now operated with LHM fluid.
The
master cylinder is the central element of the braking system, converting the driver's mechanical pressure on the pedal into hydraulic pressure in the brake system, which activates the brake shoes of the drums or the calipers of the discs. Different models of brake fluid reservoir also fed the master cylinder depending on the era: a single-circuit reservoir (a single brake fluid inlet) for the oldest generations of Mehari, then a double-circuit reservoir with two fluid inlets, making the system more efficient and of higher quality.
