The same 602 cm3 twin cylinder engine for the Mehari as for the 2CV
This is an evolution of the first flat-twin, air-cooled engine that came about for the 2CV whose capacity was increased from 375cc to 602cc over time, to switch from the original 2 taxable horsepower to 3 taxable horsepower. This Mehari engine, whose distinctive sound also made the reputation of the little Citroën, is a true model of simplicity: no timing chain (but a central camshaft driven by a pinion), no cylinder head gasket, no water pump because it is air-cooled. The 602cc of the Mehari is fed by a
twin carburettor and claims a power of less than 30hp Din for a maximum torque of 39Nm at 3500rpm. Not really a power monster, this 602cc twin cylinder is known for its reliability, robustness and the low level of expertise it requires for any mechanical intervention.

New Mehari engines, entirely reconditioned by our renovation workshop
For those who wish to have a new engine, we also offer Mehari engines completely reconditioned by our teams. Indeed, our company has had its own refurbishment workshop in Cassis since January 2017 when it took over the entire fleet of machine tools previously owned by Citroën’s historic engine subcontractor. The renovation of these 602cc engines is now carried out by the teams of the Mehari Club Cassis and nowhere else. They are thus perpetuating the Citroën tradition and have acquired a unique know-how in order to preserve this heritage of the French automobile that are the twin-cylinder engines. During their renovation, the engines are completely dismantled and cleaned, before each part is checked in the smallest detail before being rectified, reworked or replaced and then reassembled and run-in. These completely refurbished Mehari engines come with a 24 month warranty and are supplied with gaskets and dipstick guide but without the dipstick, their ignition and rocker arms still need to be adjusted during assembly. Like all classic car engines, Citroën 602cc engines run on 95 or 98 unleaded petrol, now called E5 fuel, and require 15w40 or 20W50 multigrade oils, synthetic oils being forbidden. Like the renovated standard exchange Mehari engine, the 2CV Mehari Club Cassis also offers renovated connecting rods as well as completely renovated right and
left-hand cylinder heads, all standard exchange. For your Mehari engine, choose authenticity and expertise with the 2CV Mehari Club Cassis.
